Set of Wiha precision screwdrivers (phillips and slotted) RJ-45 loopback plugs, SM Fiber loopback plugs (SC connector)-need to get LC connector loopback plugs, also a DS-3 loopback plug, and a T-1 loopback plug (don't know the last time I used that) J-style wire stripper (also called Bradley Style Stripper) Microtest Microscanner (need to find new cable scanner, this is missing the remote) Three probes and a toner (need to get a better toner, mine's a cheapy-my old boss let me have the two probes) RJ-45, RJ-11 jacks in old vitamin containers Xcelite multi-bit Screwdriver (came free with some Cisco gear back in the day)Ĭheap RJ45/11 crimper (needs upgraded to something non-cheap) So my main kit (the one that stays home or goes to client sites, and not to my workplace) is as follows: So, my "tech" tool kit is a collection of tools over the span of the last 9 years. I love these threads, only because I love tools :) NETSCOUT LinkRunner AT Network Auto-Tester star 5.So depending on what you're looking for - those are a few options for you! Let me know if you have any questions. This should be paired with a punchdown tool for termination. The LinkSprinter and Intellitone pair really well together for a field kit, because LinkSprinter tells you slot/port # (and CDP/LLDP/EDP info) for managed switches, and the Intellitone can help with unmanaged switches. We also have a toner/probe (same technology the LinkRunner uses) called Intellitone that does analog and digital toning, which is a must have if you're ever dealing with unmanaged switches. It does PoE, Switch information, DHCP, gateway, and Internet just like LinkRunner AT, but it doesn't do cable testing and doesn't have the same configuration capabilities. Our newest tool is more comparable in functionality to what Brian is talking about, and it's called the LinkSprinter. The model 2000 also does copper/fiber termination. Granted, it's a bit different price bracket, it definitely is a great networking tool, and does toning and wiremapping as well, like you're also looking for. But our upgraded LinkRunner AT does a suite of networking tests (PoE, switch advertisement information, DHCP test, gateway test, and Internet connection). That original model LinkRunner is no longer available, he is correct. Just to follow up on Brian's suggestions.
